Story of the shirt:
This beautiful Madrid warm-up jacket was worn during the 98/99 season, a period of relative instability at the club. It's also a year notable for being Madrid's first year with long-standing kit supplier Adidas. There were two changes of manager at the Bernabéu within a turblulent nine months, with Jupp Heynckes being replaced by Guus Hiddink at the end of the 97/98 season, only for Hiddink himself to get the boot in the February after reportedly over-critisicing some of his players. Welshman John Toshack then came in for the rest of the season, before also getting sacked in the November of the same year after failing to win anything but the Intercontinental Cup. The club did finish second in the league, and the jacket is absolutely gorgeous so let's just gloss over what actually happened on this pitch, shall we? This is fashion, after all.
