Story of the shirt:
This absolutely classic Umbro design was worn by United across two seasons in the mid-90s. After a disappointing year in 94/95, when the side were pipped to the title by Blackburn, manager Alex Ferguson wanted a rebuild. Controversially, he sold a host of experienced players – Paul Ince went to Inter, Mark Hughes to Chelsea and Kanchelskis to Everton – and decided not to sign any replacements. Instead, he promoted youth academy players like the Neville brothers, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and a young blonde lad called David Beckham... The decision was met by uproar amongst pundits, causing Alan Hansen to utter his now-legendary Match of the Day quote: "you'll never win anything with kids." The rest, needless to say, is history, as United went on to win an historic league and cup double in 95/96, and the aforementioned 'kids' went on to become United legends.
