Story of the shirt:
This particularly 90s design from Umbro, then at the height of their powers, was worn by Chelsea for two seasons consecutively as an away shirt. 96/97 saw Ruud Gullit guide The Blues to a famous FA Cup victory at Wembley, but a lukewarm finish in the Premier League followed by poor results at the start of 97/98 meant he was sacked and replaced by player manager Gianluca Vialli in February 1998. Vialli immediately turned things around, improving the league position and inspiring the side to victory in two more cup competitions, winning both the League Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in the spring of 1998.
