Story of the shirt:
This Atleti home shirt commemorates "100 years of red and white pride", celebrating the 100 year anniversary since the club started wearing the famous red and white stripes. Despite being founded in 1903, it was in 1911 that they switched to the colours we know now, in the process earning themselves the nickname Los Colchoneros ('the Mattressers') due to the new strips likeness to the duvet cover designs of that time. On the pitch the 11/12 season was significant due to the arrival of long term manager Diego Simeone in December 2011 after the sacking of Gregoria Manzano. Simeone started strongly, winning the UEFA Cup in his first 6 months in charge – in no small part thanks to his new striker Radamel Falcao, who scored an incredible 36 goals across all competitions.
