Story of the shirt:
This now-classic design was worn by Arsenal in 95/96, Nike's second season as kit supplier to the Gunners. Building on the blue/turquoise lightning bolt theme from the previous year (and pointedly staying away from Adidas's famous yellow 'bruised banana' design), this was the first away shirt worn by Dennis Bergkamp after his £7.5 million move from Inter Milan during the summer. Although Arsenal's season ended in a tepid 5th place finish, Bergkamp's signing and the imminent arrival of Arsene Wenger as manager in the 96/97 season kickstarted the North London side's ascendance to becoming serious title contenders – and eventually – 'invincibles'.
